Challenger banks and specialist lenders now account for more than two thirds of SME lending in the UK. The high-street bank is no longer the primary provider of growth capital for founder-led businesses — it is one option in a market that has fundamentally restructured.

Approval rates at traditional banks have fallen sharply. But that doesn't mean capital has disappeared. It means the conversation belongs somewhere else.

For many businesses, the funding problem isn't access. It's approaching the right lender for the right kind of risk.
